MINISTER NATHANIEL BASSEY
Nathaniel Bassey is a renowned Nigerian gospel singer, worship leader, songwriter, and pastor.
He was born on August 27, 1978, in Lagos, Nigeria. He hails from Ikot Ofon Ikono, Akwa Ibom State, in southern Nigeria. Nathaniel developed an interest in music at a young age, especially in jazz and gospel music. His father, Mr. Joshua Bassey, was a pastor, which influenced his Christian upbringing.
He initially aspired to be a professional jazz musician and was inspired by artists like Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. Nathaniel plays the trumpet skillfully, which has become a signature aspect of his music ministry. He studied International Relations and Politics at the University of Lagos.
Later, he pursued music studies at the Middlesex University Summer School in the United Kingdom. His musical journey took a turn when he received a divine calling to use his gift for gospel music. He became widely known in Nigeria and beyond for his deep, spirit-filled worship songs. In 2008, he released his debut album, Elohim, which gained recognition in the gospel music community.
His hit song Imela, featuring Enitan Adaba, became a global worship anthem. Other popular songs by Nathaniel Bassey include Onise Iyanu, No Other God, and Olowogbogboro. He is the convener of the Hallelujah Challenge, a virtual worship session on social media. The Hallelujah Challenge has attracted millions of worshippers worldwide since its inception in 2017. He has collaborated with other top gospel artists, such as Sinach, Mercy Chinwo, and Victoria Orenze.
His song Olowogbogboro was birthed from the Hallelujah Challenge and became a testimony-filled anthem. Nathaniel has a passion for teaching about true worship and the presence of God.
